OverviewThe Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) is seeking an Associate Director for its Innovation Centre who has the passion to grow the innovation/entrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore. The SMART Innovation Centre, is modeled after the Deshpande Center for Entrepreneurship at MIT, and seeks to help grow the innovation/entrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore in the area of science and engineering, including medtech, nanotechnology, AI/VR, robotics, etc., known as the Deep Technologies. The Centre assists faculty and postdocs from all the Institutions of Higher Learning in Singapore drive their research to impact. The Centre operates a grant program that includes mentorship, hands-on management, training through Bootcamps and Innovation Fellows Programs and networking for company building. The Associate Director should have experience mentoring and training researchers and have experience managing and financing spin-off companies.

DutiesThe Associate Director will report to the Director, but the candidate must be passionate and independently drive assigned grant funded projects to commercial impact. This position requires hands-on management experience that utilizes business mentors (Catalysts) and hands-on training (Bootcamps) to drive the projects to commercial success. The Associate Director will also take a leadership role in our training and education initiatives and help create a SMART Innovation Academy for teaching innovation and entrepreneurship through Bootcamps and SMART Innovation Fellow Programs.

Requirements• Must have an engineering or science degree and demonstrate knowledge in Deep Technologies. A PhD is desirable, but not required.
• Should have knowledge of product development and company formation and financing. An MBA is desirable, but not required.
• Desirable to have 3-5 years’ experience in a start-up company environment or in the seed venture fund area and have a passion to mentor and train faculty and postdocs and help drive research to impact thru company formation.
• Must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
