OverviewThe evolution of advanced location-sensing and communications technologies has greatly impacted the realm of travel surveys. The Future Mobility Survey (FMS) currently takes advantage of these technologies by using smartphones to collect GPS, GSM, wi-fi and accelerometer data to provide detailed location information for purposes of a novel travel survey platform. The objective of the survey is to collect detailed location data to support and augment traditional survey methods and improve on-going transport modeling efforts. The FMS platform is currently being deployed as part of Singapore’s nation-wide Household Interview Travel Survey (HITS), and future plans include exploring the survey’s potential for use in freight studies, deployment via alternative technologies (such as dedicated GPS loggers), across different geographic regions, and in alternative experimental designs. Job Description The postdoctoral associate/research scientist on this project will work on a variety of project aspects, including, but not limited to the following: Requirements Applicants should have a Ph.D. in transportation planning, engineering or a related field, with experience and knowledge related to emerging transportation technologies and their implementation and use. Experience with transportation surveys and their applications is expected, as is a strong background in statistical analysis. |
