SMART Executive Director John Desforge awarded MIT Infinite Mile Award

“John knows Singapore better, I believe, than anyone in the MIT community, and, as an exceptional administrator, has become ‘Mr. Singapore’, “ said a founding faculty member of SMART, tongue-in-cheek.

This statement, read out during the MIT Infinite Mile Award ceremony, underscores John’s intimate knowledge of Singapore in the course of his work in SMART and all MIT programs in Singapore. He has “expertly fulfilled many of the complex responsibilities inherent in the role of lead administrator of the Singapore-MIT Alliance and SMART. He has also used exceptional foresight, skill and personal commitment, not to mention frequent back-and-forth travel between Boston and Singapore, to expand on his role and make SMART even better.”

For his superb talent, coupled with his exceptional commitment to helping the Institute and its students, John was awarded the 2014 Infinite Mile Award by MIT. This award is designed to recognise individuals or teams who have made extraordinary contributions within their own organizations to help the Institute carry out its mission: To advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.

The Infinite Mile Award was presented at an award ceremony in MIT on 12 May 2014.
