SMART is a major research enterprise established by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in partnership with the National Research Foundation of Singapore (NRF). SMART serves as an intellectual hub for international research collaborations, not only between MIT and Singapore, but also involving researchers from the region and beyond. At SMART, we identify and carry out research on critical problems of societal importance. SMART is a magnet for attracting and anchoring global research talent, while simultaneously instilling and promoting a culture of translational research and entrepreneurship in Singapore. Five interdisciplinary research groups (IRGs) are currently in operation: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Critical Analytics for Manufacturing Personalized-Medicine (CAMP), Disruptive & Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Precision (DiSTAP), Future Urban Mobility (FM), and Low Energy Electronics Systems (LEES). In addition, SMART also operates an Innovation Centre.
Job Description
The project focuses on the creation of monolithic CMOS + GaN HEMT integrated circuits for 5G applications.
The GaN MOCVD epitaxy team at SMART is seeking a qualified candidate for a Research Assistant position.
This position will entail the following technical responsibilities:
- Perform GaN MOCVD tasks including carrying out experiments involving the growth of 200 mm GaN-on-Si wafers
- Carry out characterization of GaN wafers, including, microscope inspection, wafer bow measurement, wafer photoluminescence mapping and wafer X-ray diffraction
- Assist in upkeep and maintenance of tools, including (but not limited to) MOCVD tools
Job Requirements

At least a Diploma in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or any related discipline

Relevant experience in the semiconductor area (e.g. working in cleanrooms, handling semiconductor wafers/components etc.) is helpful, and experience operating epitaxy tools is preferred

The candidate needs to work well in a team, and with other lab/cleanroom users

Good command of written and spoken English

Candidate must be able and willing to work with flexible working hours (normally 8:30 to 17:30 but occasionally 6:30 to 15:30 or 10:30 to 19:30)
