Industries and vehicles add to bad air days

03 March 2017
Dr Hsiang-he Lee's research suggests that domestic pollution may also be responsible for the persistent haze

Regional forest fires are not the only source of Singapore's bad air days. The research by SMART CENSAM Dr Lee Hsiang-He suggests that, on average, about one-third of the low-visibility days in Singapore were caused by pollutants from forest fires, called fire aerosols; while the other two-third is from domestic sources.

Her findings in "Biomass burning aerosols and the low-visibility events in Southeast Asia" were published in the scientific journal Atmospheric Chemistry And Physics.

More can also be found on The Straits Times in the story "Industries and vehicles add to bad air days".
